CIBA RESTRUCTURING PROCESS AND MEMBERSHIP DRIVE

The Council of Indigenous Business Associations, in partnership with Waltergates Ghana Ltd from November 2022, started the restructuring process with the establishment of the Database Management System (DBMS) and Co-operatives and so far, the largest CIBA member-association namely; Greater Accra Market Traders Association (GAMTA), has commenced its Co-operative system in full operation. The next association in line is the Ghana Traditional Caterers Association (GTCA) which has started registering its members on the Database Management System, leading to the establishment of its Co-operative system. It is on this note that we are encouraging leaders of the remaining member-associations to expedite action to get their associations on board before the end of the year 2023. CIBA is equally in the process of strategizing on how best to embark on its membership drive to educate and empower more registered trade associations to be registered under the umbrella of CIBA in order to form a formidable informal sector to be reckoned with in the nation.

THE CO-OPERATIVE SYSTEM AND ITS BENEFITS

Under the Co-operative system, members of the various CIBA member-associations, after registering and buying shares in the Co-operative, would make a daily payment of a minimum of GH¢5 or more to the Co-operative which would be managed by elected members of their own associations. Benefits to be enjoyed by members include: Pension Insurance Cover, Life Insurance Cover, Funeral Insurance Cover, Health Insurance Cover, Soft Loans with no Collateral, Investment Scheme, Smart ID Card, Consumer Credit, Jobs and Skills Training, Access to grants and Business Report and Legal Aid Services
